This year’s E3 conference is right around the corner and the gaming world is alight with hopes and intrigues about what games may be showcased this year. There have been a flurry of leaks and revels over the last week, such as Watchdogs 2 and Destiny: Rise of Iron, as well as suspicions surrounding a new Red Dead Redemption sequel/prequel/something. Icons such as EA have decided to stray from the norm this year and are hosting their own Play! Showcase, displaying a variety of new games including the highly anticipated Mass Effect: Andromeda and Battlefield 1. Bethesda and Microsoft have their usual big-name brands to promote with rumours of a Skyrim remake coming to next-gen consoles; my hopes are that this “remake” is a red herring and that we’re actually about to receive a look at the next Elder Scrolls instalment.
As displayed in a previous post, I am so excited for ME:A. Thankfully, EA’s showcase is up first on Sunday so that my hype train can be refuelled. I’m equally excited for what Bethesda have to display this year, with Prey 2 being hailed as a “spiritual successor” to System Shock 2 – I sometimes still see that big scary face in my nightmares. There will also be a performance by Blink 182, seemingly; but I’m not too fussed about that. Regarding TES remake, I’m hoping it’ll be an Oblivion or Morrowind remake instead of Skyrim because Oblivion is still one of my favourite games of all time.
Whilst PlayStation have stated that they won’t be showing off their new model of the PlayStation 4, Microsoft will be revealing their shiny new Xbox models: A slimmer, more affordable model and one that has been upgraded to support Oculus Rift. There will be some new releases coming from some of Microsoft’s flagship titles such as Gears of War 4, Halo Wars 2 and a possible new addition to the Forza series.
Sony are rumoured to be displaying the ever-delayed No Man’s Sky and The Last Guardian – the one with the big dog thing – considering they are due for release in the near future. The VR headset will hopefully have its own showcase given that it will be released in October as Sony reaches one of its last marketing periods for the product. Naughty Dog may be presenting information of The Last of us: 2 which I can’t say I’m bothered about at all (Not a TLOU fan). Apart from that, it’s all quiet on the Sony stage from my end. Ubisoft were looking a bit empty this year given that there’s no newly proposed Assassin’s Creed addition but they have filled that place with Watchdogs 2 as well as a new South Park game (I personally LOVED The Stick of Truth).
Regarding Nintendo, I am totally hyped about Pokémon: GO! And Pokémon Sun/ Moon because who doesn’t love Pokémon?! They’re even teasing a new The Legend of Zelda game, so it’s all happening in Nintendo’s little corner of the world. For old school RPG fans, they’ll definitely be worth a watch.
The games I’m most looking forward to are: Mass Effect: Andromeda; TES game (remake or otherwise) and a new game by a group of developers called Spiders titled Technomancer which I think looks totally badass. CD Projekt Red have stated they will not be showing their next big league title, Cyberpunk 2077, at E3 this year but may be revealing the equally – if not more – exciting Gwent: The Witcher Card Game which I sincerely hope is real because Gwent is the best damn card game you’ll ever play.
To be fairly honest, I’ve deliberately tried to keep myself in the dark about upcoming games because I was too excited about TW3: Blood and Wine coming out (10/10!) so I release this post might not reveal anything particularly new or exciting. What games are you looking forward to hearing about? Will you be streaming via Twitch or will you actually be there for the showcases? Comment, like and subscribe!
